For some people, silence is a weapon. For Mallory “Mouse” Dodge, it’s a shield. Growing up, she learned that the best way to survive was to say nothing. And even though it’s been four years since her nightmare ended, she’s beginning to worry that the fear that holds her back will last a lifetime.
Now, after years of homeschooling with loving adoptive parents, Mallory must face a new milestone—spending her senior year at public high school. But of all the terrifying and exhilarating scenarios she’s imagined, there’s one she never dreamed of—that she’d run into Rider Stark, the friend and protector she hasn’t seen since childhood, on her very first day.
It doesn’t take long for Mallory to realize that the connection she shared with Rider never really faded. Yet the deeper their bond grows, the more it becomes apparent that she’s not the only one grappling with the lingering scars from the past. And as she watches Rider’s life spiral out of control, Mallory faces a choice between staying silent and speaking out—for the people she loves, the life she wants, and the truths that need to be heard.
The Problem with Forever is a story that touches on the lives of two high school seniors who are reunited after being removed from the foster carer they were living with.
After a horrific childhood where the only person who showed her any love was her foster brother, Mallory is now living with caring and understanding adoptive parents.
It’s been four years since she removed and not a day has gone by that she didn’t think about what became of him.
Choosing to transition from homeschooling to completing her senior year at the High School, she is knocked for six when she discovers that Rider is also a student there. As is Rider.
Rider is fiercely loyal and protective, but he has deep insecurities and an extreme amount of guilt on the inside.
Mallory and Rider were no strangers to abuse and neglect. All they had was each other. Rider became Mallory’s protector and therefore defended her whenever she was in danger to the point of putting himself in harms-way to protect her . He endured a lot of abuse in order to prevent Mallory from being the target. They shared a really special connection one that the should never have had to.
I was really suprised with this story and I would recommend this to anyone who loves YA romances. It is a really sweet story which deals with abuse and their lasting long term effects.
