Vigilante by Kady Cross

A brutally honest, uncompromising story about a teen girl who decides to take matters into her own hands.

It’s senior year, and Hadley and her best friend, Magda, should be starting the year together. Instead, Magda is dead and Hadley is alone. Raped at a party the year before and humiliated, Magda was driven to take her own life and Hadley is forced to see her friend’s attackers in the classroom every day. Devastated, enraged and needing an outlet for her grief, Hadley decides to get a little justice of her own.

Donning a pink ski mask and fueled by anger, Hadley goes after each of the guys one by one, planning to strip them of their dignity and social status the way they did to Magda. As the legend of the pink-masked Vigilante begins to take on a life of its own, Hadley’s revenge takes a turn for the dangerous. Could her need for vengeance lead her down a path she can’t turn back from?

I received this ARC from the publisher, in exchange for a honest review.

Wow.Vigilante is a story that is so relevant  and thought provoking . Touching on a issues that are at the forefront  society. Vigilante deals with a very sensitive topic, but I felt like Kady handled these topics extrenly well indeed. For some people this story will be extremely  hard  and a very emotional read. But it is a book that i feel needs to be read, to be talked about.

This  is not like anything else i have ever read before. Our heroine is a normal teenage girl trying to find justice for her friend who was raped, bullied and then feeling as if she had no other choice kills herself.

Hadley and Magda were best friends, then one night at a party, Magda was drugged and raped. With images of what happened being shared. But when the charges are dropped it all becomes to much and she committed suicide. Hadley feels the tremendous guilt over what happened to Magda. Hadley is full of frustration and angered by the situation that she decideds to take matters into her own hands.

Hadley starts to help at a self defense class, which helps her not only  making a few new friends but to also help and empower other girls. One of her ideas during the story, is a girl watch program. This is something that i could see being set up and  working.

Hadley’s life really spins out of control as the boys she’s after are aware that someone is out to get them. But when over Pink V app3ar and intervene  to protect othere girls Hadley begins to wonder what she has started.

This book is quiet heavy and dark, however there are those little moments that were light-hearted and surprising.  With a ending that will leave you shocked

Exploring the very sensitive topic; rape, bulling and suicide. Which  Kady handles very well and realistically. This book is one that real needs to be on a school reading list. That needs to be read and talked about. There is such potential that this story could help people talk about the subject and take action. To prevent these events from happening.
